Lamming Cedar Mill is a well designed specialty mill capable of producing ridge cap, split rail and off product bagged mulch. Three production lines under one room allows for a maximization of labor in a cost effective production facility. The area produces an abundant source of cedar logs. In addition to all the ridge cap and post rail equipment, the mill operates a bagging plant for landscape mulch. Competition is limited to expensive barriers to entry and at present there are approximately two other mills in Canada and an equal number in the US who are in direct competition. When in production, the mill was capable of operating with less than 12 employees on a single shift with the rail mill employing about 7 and the shake mill employing 4. Operation of the sales office and manager required approximately three employees. The production process starts with logs that are carried into the mill on in-feed chains to the deck saws to be cut for shake bolts that are turned into ridge and post cants. Posts are drilled and rails are scarfed and sorted. The waste materials are transferred by conveyor to the “hog” and then to the bagging plant. Mulch can also be transported directly onto rail cars for bulk transport. An extensive equipment list includes 60’ long feed chains, 100 hp log splitter, loader and forklift, metal detecting instruments, building and land, scarfer and 48” saw. The assets are complete for an immediate re-start of production.
