The business is run out of 350ft office space above a detached garage. At times we need to use some garage space as well. The business has done upwards of 120k a year in the past. Recently it has slowed due to technology and the 2008 crash when several of the businesses we worked with failed.
We take customer mailing lists & run them through the CASS certification and NCOA (National Change of Address) to clean up their list. We return the new mailing addresses to the customer to update their database. Once the mailing list is ready we prepare the piece for addressing. We do the following:
putting on tabs, folding, inserting, traying the pieces, preparing PO paperwork and delivering the mail to the PO.
We use the following equipment: A computer & monitor, 2 high speed ink jet printers, stream feeder with conveyor, table top vacuum feed folder, 2 tabbers, 2 scales, HP desktop printer, misc other items such as work tables.
It is important to be located somewhere in the general Lynnwood, Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, North City, Edmonds area where the customers are located. Some of the customers come to the office from time to time and also printers deliver printed mailing materials.
At this time we work part time. Some days no work at all, other days we are very busy. It is an on demand type of business. We have spoiled our customers with fast accurate service. They love knowing they will get a fast response from the business owner and not have to go through some long telephone automated recording. People are getting frustrated with that type of business where getting a "real" person to talk to is nearly impossible.
Our customers pay well, in 28 years we have only had one bounced check that I can remember. Our customers are very grateful for the work we do and are really nice to work with. Most are city employees, small businesses, schools, printers and non-profits. Some have been with us for many years. This type of business is so much nicer than working with the general public in my opinion.
